To celebrate the launch of a new tree climbing activity, Isle of Wight Council Leader David Pugh and friends took part in a tree climbing session at the Goodleaf tree in Appley Park.
With a generous head start and assistance from Isle of Wight Council Parks and Countryside Manager, Matthew Chatfield, Cllr Pugh soared to new heights, and raced the Island 2000 Red Squirrel up the giant oak . View more images in Island Pulse News and Media Gallery here:
With the school summer holidays not far away, the Isle of Wight Council is working with Goodleaf Tree Climbing to offer a day out in the park with a difference. The Goodleaf tree, which is located opposite Appley Tower on the seafront and next to the children’s play area, is one of Appley Park’s historic oaks, and one of the tallest in the park.
Tree climbing sessions will be available in Appley Park, Ryde, from 12th July throughout the summer until the end of August. The activity will be provided by Goodleaf Tree Climbing and will take place every Sunday between 1100 – 1600. Each session lasts approximately an hour and costs £10 to climb, with spectators watching for free. Booking is advised and the sessions are weather dependant.
Each climb is fully supervised by professionals and those taking part should wear covered shoes or trainers. Long sleeve tops and trousers are also advised. All instruction and safety equipment will be provided.
Anyone interested the tree climbing sessions or want any other information should contact Paul McCathie from Goodleaf Tree Climbing on 0797 0033 209.
