The Isle of Wight Buy with Confidence Trader Approval Scheme is alive and well despite false claims the campaign is closing.

One scheme member has contacted Isle of Wight Council trading standards officers after receiving a call claiming the existing scheme was finishing and being asked by the caller for £600 to join a new version.

But the existing Buy With Confidence scheme continues to grow it now has 170 members raising fears the call was a hoax or scam

Richard Stone, Trading Standards Manager, said: “The story we have heard is hugely questionable. To suggest the Buy With Confidence Scheme is anything but flourishing is at best mistaken and at worse malicious and mischievous.

“Fortunately, Buy With Confidence members have a very good working relationship with Trading Standards and are well aware the scheme is very much alive.

“Nevertheless it does show that there are people out there looking to make a fast buck at every opportunity even if some of their information appears to be untrue.

He added: “All businesses should be constantly vigilant to avoid being taken in and if they have any doubts about trading standards issues they should contact us for advice.”
