What connects Rob da Bank (pictured): John Giddings: Mick Smith: Ian Boyd and Pippa Phillips with the Isle of Wight?
They are all listed ambassadors by the Isle of Wight Economic Partnership (IWEP) and represent the Island on their ’Isle of Wight Blog’ which was launched on 25th Sept. Others still to make an entry: Shirley Robertson: Tim Sewell: Tracy Gullan: Rob Sauven: Mark King and Ellen MacArthur.
According to Gail @IWEP:
“The Isle of Wight Blog area on the IWEP Website was designed so that the Wight Ambassadors can tell us what they’ve been up to, what they need to get off their chest and generally to remind us that there are exciting things to look forward to!”
Ian Boyd of Island 2000 has been the most prolific writer so far, with 2 posts already:
We love East Cowes! “Yes we do. It’s a fantastic place and we love working here. We moved the Island 2000 office from Newport up to East Cowes 18 months ago (into Venture Quays with much help from SEEDA) and haven’t looked back.” Click HERE: and Blimey, what a week. Click HERE:
Whilst Ambassador Rob Da Bank , Master of Bestival gives it the thumbs up and added the most recent entry on 22nd October, Rob greets us with Mornin Campers!
Rob is letting Islanders know that he intends to return from his Icelandic break to lead the way in forging another new festival experience ‘Camp Bestival’ for the people of Dorset in July 2008.
Fear not Rob is not about to ditch the Bestival as Rob says:
“Our spiritual home is the Isle Of Wight though and I hope no-one gets worried that we’re moving or taking our focus off Bestival wer’e not!”“We had a great Bestival 2007 with balmy tropical Island sunshine like last year so we felt blessed after a rainy festival season in the UK. Overall the 30,000 odd mixture of festi goers, artists and crew (who numbered over 6000 this year!) made this our best one yet and we’ve had great feedback”
The Isle of Wight Economic Partnership state:
“We operate an Ambassadors programme working with a range of people who are proud of the Isle of Wight, and through their own contacts and expertise can help us attract new investment.
We ask our ambassadors to talk about the Island at any opportunity, and ask them to let us talk about their own success and expertise to generate media coverage for the Island.
It is a mutually beneficial arrangement, ambassadors receive profile for their own businesses and opportunities to build networks with other local businesses the Island gets a high level sales force with contacts across the world.”
