1200 Strong Voluntary & Community Fayre
Jun 30th, 2009 | By Amanda Johnson | Isle of Wight News From The Island Pulse
Following the news: The Real Value Of Island’s Voluntary Activity we now discover a Voluntary & Community Fayre is taking place in September, to recognise the 1200 Voluntary & Community Sector organisations that operate on the Isle of Wight.
The Isle of Wight is to see a special celebration of everything the Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) offers to the Island; 1200 STRONG will take place at Brading Roman Villa on Saturday 19th September from 10am – 4pm.
All groups and organisations from within the Voluntary and Community Sector are welcome to attend and showcase their work. We are looking for a dynamic event with plenty for visitors to do, wherever possible thinking beyond tables/display boards covered in leaflets and photographs.
We hope to have helicopters, armoured cars, boats and classic buses on site, rugby, archery, football and table tennis competitions running throughout the day, dog training displays, art classes and horticultural displays.
In the evening we are holding a fashion show where budding designers, having sourced clothes from charity shops, can show off their creations. We are also looking for groups to run coconut shys, egg and spoon, sack and three legged races for both children and adults and other traditional fayre games. What can you do?
The voluntary and community sector often referred to as the third sector has a vital role in the delivery of local services on the Island. A conservative estimate of there being 1200 voluntary and community groups operating on the Island with over 500 registered charities, one can see where the 1200 STRONG title for the event came from.
