Island Sports Club Conference
Oct 15th, 2008 | By Anna Symcox | Isle of Wight News From The Island PulseFollowing the success of last year’s event, the Isle of Wight Council’s Sports Unit is hosting its second annual Isle of Wight Community Sports Club Conference on Monday 3rd November at St. George’s Football Club, Newport.
The conference is for all Islanders involved in sport, including coaches, volunteers, club officials and organisers. It provides an opportunity for those involved in sport to share their experiences, gain updates on the latest changes to legislation, share good practice and make useful links within the Island’s sporting community.
Speakers will include representatives from School Sports Partnership, Isle of Wight Council Children’s Services, Sport Hampshire and Isle of Wight and the Isle of Wight Council’s Sports Unit.
During the evening a number of subjects will be covered including funding for sports clubs, the Clubmark scheme, child protection, and the links between schools and sports clubs with the chance to network and ask questions afterwards.
Cllr George Brown, Isle of Wight Council cabinet member responsible for leisure said:
“This conference provides an opportunity for people involved in every aspect of sport on the Island to get up to date information on issues affecting them. Sports Clubs play a vital part in the Island’s community engaging people of all ages in sport, something the council is keen to encourage as part of its One Island and Eco Island visions.
Following feedback from last year’s conference, we know that it can make a real difference to clubs and provide valuable support and advice to all involved.”
Anyone wishing to attend the Isle of Wight Community Sports Clubs Conference taking place between 6.30pm and 9pm on the 3rd November at St George’s Football Club should book their place in advance by contacting the Sports Unit on 01983 823818 or by e-mailing sports.unit@iow.gov.uk
