John Coles reports:   Isle of Wight Police are seeking information after two masked men with weapons, entered a house in Freshwater last night (Thursday) and demanded money from the occupants.

The men searched the living room before being disturbed, then threatened the occupants with weapons and demanded money, but ran out of the house when challenged.  Police have now confirmed the weapons were not firearms.

They took a black leather purse containing cash and cards, and its possible they drove off in a dark-coloured van or car, possibly a Mitsubishi Shogun.

The first suspect is described as slim, between 6’3” and 6’6” tall, and wearing dark clothing including navy-coloured tracksuit bottoms and large white trainers with a black stripe.  The second suspect is described as of moderate build, around 5’7”, between 30 and 40, and wearing dark clothing.

DC Paul Bradley, of Newport CID, said:

“I’d like to reassure people this is an extremely rare incident for the Island and we believe the house was specifically targeted.

“The woman and her son were uninjured but have been left incredibly shaken by what happened.

“I’m appealing to anyone who may have spotted the men running or driving off from Edinburgh Road to contact me as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information can contact DC Bradley at Newport CID on 0845 045 45 45 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
