Tesco customers on the Isle of Wight contributed altogether £2,810 towards the RNLI’s nationwide appeal for new lifejackets, as a result of collections taking place outside the company’s Island stores on both days of the 19/20 May weekend.
Taking in turns to man the collection buckets were members of most of the RNLI branches and guilds on the Island, as well as some of the crew and shore crew of the charity’s three local lifeboat stations
The RNLI has embarked on a programme of replacing lifejackets across the country. Each of the latest all-weather lifejackets costs £350 and those for inshore craft £330.
“The RNLi is most grateful to the generosity of the public for this special appeal,” said Cowes’ lifeboat operations manager, Mark Southwell. “And, of course, to all those involved in the RNLI for giving up their time over a weekend.”
