The Isle of Wight Council Arts Unit is calling for Island artists and crafts makers to register for the 2010 Open Studios event, which enables members of the public to access local studios.
Open Studios is the biggest non-gallery event on the Island, directly supporting the professional development of artists who benefit from public feedback, building client lists and making sales, networking and more. It will take place over two weekends in July. With 5000 visitors annually throughout the Island, the event contributes to the Island’s creative economy, helping small arts businesses and individuals reach a wider audience.
2010 will see the launch of a new and improved Open Studios brochure (to replace the Arts Directory) with route maps to help visitors locate studios more easily.
Cllr George Brown, Isle of Wight Council cabinet member for the economy, tourism, leaisure and planning said:
“This is a wonderful opportunity for local artists to showcase their work. I hope this event will encourage more people to support local artists and maybe even inspire them to get involved themselves.”
Artists should have suitable space in their homes, studios or outdoor spaces to take part, but can also hire space to share with other artists. The deadline is Feb 15th. Those who cannot take part in the event may still benefit from being listed in the new brochure with a small entry in the Artists’ Index. Apply online at www.iow-openstudios.com or call 823813 for an entry form.
The Open Studio Event will take place over two weekends:
16-19 July (Artists in the South and West of the Island)
23-26 July (Artists in the North and East of the Island)
