Cowes Week Limited are delighted that the UK round of the  iShares Cup will be hosted during the first three days of Cowes Week (1st to 3rd August). For 2009.

The racing will take place within metres of the Cowes shoreline along The Green and Egypt Point, adding a sensational display for the thousands of visitors who gather to watch the racing: “We are delighted that the Extreme 40 fleet will be able to race so close to the shore this year as a part of Cowes Week which means we can really add to the public entertainment – an important value of the iShares Cup” said Gilles Chiorri.

Nine of the World’s best teams and sailors will be taking part in the third round of the European tour including Cowes resident Shirley Robertson helming Team iShares, Loick Peyron driving Oman Sail’s Renaissance and Franck Cammas on Groupama. All the thrills and spills from the dynamic Extreme 40 catamarans can also be enjoyed from the iShares Cup public bar at Egypt Point.
 
The iShares Cup, organised by OC Events, began in 2007, with a winning formula of spectacular racing, close to shore for spectators, top sailors from a spectrum of disciplines including the America’s Cup and Olympians, and a ‘5th man’ spot on every boat in every race – an incredible opportunity for guests to ride shot-gun and the adrenalin-rush of racing these high-speed catamarans. 

The 2009 Series is currently being led by BMW ORACLE Racing, just 1 point ahead of Oman Sail’s Masirah, skippered by Hampshire sailor Pete Cumming who won the last round in the South of France at the beginning of July. This is the third successive year that the UK round of the iShares Cup has taken place during Cowes Week and we are delighted to welcome them back!
