Good news for Dee Caffari who reports: on winning the Helen Rollason Award for Inspiration, at the Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year awards 2009. 

Dee was delighted to receive the Helen Rollason Award – which recognises inspirational endeavour.  The awards recognises the immense contribution made by women to British sporting success and focuses on all areas of the sports world – from high profile medal winners to unpaid coaches who work to encourage a lifelong passion for sport and physical activity. 

Chrissie Wellington, the current world record-holder and Ironman Triathlon champion, was announced as the Sportswoman of the Year for 2009.

The Sunday Times initiated the awards in 1988 and some of the greatest names in sport have been among the winners: Olympic champions Sally Gunnell, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Denise Lewis, Kelly Holmes, Rebecca Adlington, Victoria Pendleton and last year’s winner, Nicole Cooke, have all featured on the podium.
