Icy Weather Warning
Feb 9th, 2010 | By Anna Price | Isle of Wight News From The Island PulseMotorists on the Isle of Wight are being asked to take extra care on Island roads over coming days as icy conditions are set to return. The Met Office has forecast subzero temperatures and possible snow showers which may lead to icy stretches on untreated roads.
Editor: Island Pulse adds: Reports abound with news of snow and sleet on the way this week as Britain suffers another cold snap. Forecasters predict the chilly weather will last into the weekend, but not a return to the big freeze that caused chaos last month.
According to MeteoGroup: the chances of snowfall in eastern parts of the UK are high and as the week develops overnight temperatures will plunge below freezing across most parts.
Of course the big question is will it snow on the Isle of Wight this week? check out snowy weather predictions on this Wroxall Weather link here: The summary forecast can be viewed here:
The Council is reminding people that while the Government’s rationing of rock salt continues, a reduced road treatment plan remains in place so motorists should take extra care on untreated roads.
Peter Hayward, Isle of Wight Council Head of Highways and Transport said:
“I would encourage drivers to take extra care over coming days as we are expecting icy conditions, particularly during the night and early morning. I would ask motorists to plan their routes carefully as some routes that were previously treated may now be affected by ice.”
The Council’s fleet of gritting vehicles will commence treatment of the main routes at 7pm tonight (Tuesday 9 February).
