Clare Griffin reports:  As part of West Wight Sports Centre’s Community environment project, children from West Wight schools have been busy designing and painting pebbles outside the sports centre.

Children from other schools are invited to take part in the school holidays and are also invited to design a poster asking people to look after their local environment.

The pebbles were originally laid in 2003 and were painted then by pupils from local schools. Over the years the paint has worn away and so schools were asked by Carole Walker who is coordinating the project to come up with designs to re-paint the pebbles. Many children have been able to re-paint the pebble that their older brothers or sisters originally painted.

Sixteen children from All Saints painted their designs early in March. On Monday 12 children from St Saviours took part and on Friday 4th April pupils from West Wight Middle school were at the Centre with their paint brushes.

The project is being funded by Lottery Awards For All and will also include the re-planting of the flower bed at the front of the Sports Centre. The closing date for the environment poster competition will be the 30th April, entries on A4 paper to be delivered to the sports centre.

More activities to look forward to include:
