HIOW Air Ambulance Requires A Name

Oct 6th, 2009 | By Amanda Johnson | Isle of Wight News From The Island Pulse

News reaches us of a competition to name the Helicopter used by the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance helicopter (pictured) may be small in size but the service it provides has a huge impact on everyone’s lives.  As its such an important aircraft it should have a spectacular name.

Therefore the community are being given the opportunity to come up with an exciting new name for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

As you can see from the photo, the helicopter has a number of characteristics that could be used when choosing a name.

The distinctive yellow colour, its paramedics clad in red and its ability to save people, plus many more. The name needs to be unique, appropriate and fun, and most importantly it should reflect that this air ambulance serves the people of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

The lucky winner will be invited to Thruxton Airfield, where the helicopter is based, to meet the crew, be shown around the air ambulance, and to formally name the aircraft.

The competition will close on Wednesday 16th October, where the winner will be chosen by a committee of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance staff and volunteers. The winner will then be notified by the end of October.
