islandpulse Isle of Wight All that Jazz:

The sounds of jazz are sweeping back into Ventnor this weekend for the International Jazz Festival.   brilliantly diverse line-up proves that jazz is alive and kicking in Ventnor, not only that, but evolving and attracting many more aficionados.

The Jazz Festival Organisers Geri Ward and Phil Snellen have managed to attract some stunning performers and, given the obsessional nature of ardent jazz fans and small venues tomorrow as they say is another day and today it’s well worth a stroll down into Ventnor.

The vibes are positive at every gig attended and the festival has already drawn increasing attention for its international line-up.   On Friday and Saturday spectators tapped their toes to live acts performing in a host of free Fringe and ticketed venues spread throughout Ventnor.

The programme aims to provide something for everyone, whilst the vast majority of gigs are taking place in the Jazz Village, a special jazz bus is helping everyone get to some of the more outlying venues.

Jazz fans have travelled from all over the UK to soak up the experience one couple we met travelled from France.

Jeanne Chauchoin said:

“It’s brilliant, just walking around, seeing all the people gives you a positive vibe, just being able to wander around gives such a great build-up to the music.  we love the freedom and the free spirit of this Jazz Festival.”

Emma Johns, from Newcastle, said she loves the jazz and the atmosphere.

“The stroller ticket was a great idea, theres no fuss in booking to see a gig, as they say it does what it say’s on the tin, you just stroll along in between sets.  It’s the first time I’ve been, but it’s so good, infact it’s brilliant.”

Well worth a trip down into Ventnor for All that Free Jazz.

  1. This is a Fab review of the Isle of Wight International Jazz Festival, I was there too and the entire weekend was a blast. Very surprised that there are no other island/local reports on the ventnor jazz festival, perhaps we might see something in the County Press on Friday.
    Keep up the good work.
    Polly.
