On Sunday as Cowes Week racing on The Solent commenced, one of the busiest places was the Ondeck stand, which played host, to the children’s activity centre.

It was also the departure point for the lucky winner of the Island Pulse ‘Win a RIB Ride and Mount Gay Rum Goodies’ Competition .

Our winner Robert Bowers and his daughter Morgan were joined by several other competition winners from various news media outlets including; Yachts & Yachting and JazzFM.

After being kitted out with appropriate clothing and the required safety briefing it was down to the jetty for their ‘Rock up ‘n RIB’ ride courtesy of Ondeck, the official yacht charter of the Cowes Week regatta.

The winners returned from their RIB Ride exhilarated. The Bowers enjoyed the family entertainment and hospitality provided by Mount Gay Rum for the rest of their day in Cowes.

Robert said: “We all have had a really great day made even better by the Mount Gay goodies”, and he intends to adorn his recently completed summerhouse bar on the Island with them.  All in all, smiles all around for the RIB tickling experience!

Children’s Fun Session

The children’s activities centre, is run in association with Ondeck, Cowes Primary School and Aberdeen Asset Management, and is one of the best shore side highlights of Cowes Week.

Family day encouraged the children to become interested in not only the fun and games on shore, but also in sailing in general. It really was an eventful day.

Cheryl Hedley, teacher at Cowes Primary School, said the aim was to give children plenty of fun things to do. “We have a flag-making competition, and a poster competition, with a prize-giving. The face painting and modelling clay are also going down well.”
