20th – 25th September 2010: Ryde International Film Festival: A group of enthusiastic people from the Isle of Wight are organising the Ryde International Film Festival in September 2010. 5th September 2010: Morris Minor Rally IW Steam Railway  The first car to sell a million! The ‘Moggy Minor’ is fondly remembered and is still a much-loved car. See a host of these old classics at the annual Morris Minor Rally at Havenstreet Station.Free Admission.

5th September 2010: New Found Friends Dog Rescue at The Folly, Whippingham – The Island’s Hospice is looking for 40 people with a sense of adventure who would like to be rescued from the River Medina by one of 10 genuine Newfoundland Rescue Dogs. The hospice is asking that all those taking part raise a minimum of £100 for the Island’s Hospice in order to take part.

The minimum age is 16 and you need to be in good health and a good swimmer. Life Jackets will be provided and everyone taking part will be accompanied into the water and given a full explanation of what to expect! 9th – 12th September 2010: Bestival: A multi award-winning 3 day boutique music festival curated by Radio 1 DJ Rob da Bank, Bestival is fun and quirky. The annual dressing-up theme is always widely embraced,  and attractions include the Come Dancing Spiegeltent and the Bollywood Bar. Set in the leafy surrounds of Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle of Wight, it’s the best way to round off the summer festival season. Read more from the Island Pulse here:

11th – 12th September 2010: Model Railway Exhibition at IW Steam Railway A steam train here, a diesel there, and a mainline express charging through the station.  Get up close and personal with your favourite model! The excitement and the charm of railways in miniature for all to see and then a chance to ride on the real thing. Free Admission.

16th – 19th September 2010: Little Britain Challenge Cup Regatta : The LBCC is the largest annual, construction industry yachting regatta in Europe with over 250 yachts taking part and over 3000 people racing. For more information visit www.littlebritain.co.uk

September 2010: The Wight Challenge – We are looking for adventurous and fun-loving people from all over the UK to take part. The Wight Challenge is a 20 mile cycling, 8 mile running and 3 mile open canoeing challenge in teams of three to have fun and raise money for Wessex Heartbeat on the Isle of Wight. 20th September 2010: International Classic Car Show Ryde Seafront – International Classic Car Show with over 300 classic cars on show. Free entrance and there will be a collection for the hospice.

18th-26th September 2010: The Isle of Wight Cycling Festival, which is organised by Isle of Wight Council, will be held between 19th – 27th September.  Rides vary from pleasant meanders through pretty villages to Cycle the Wight a 70 mile road route around the Island’s spectacular coastline. The festival kicks off in Newport with a day of family entertainment, including the hilarious sink or swim. Watch from the riverbank as homemade pedal-powered crafts attempt to make it across the River Medina without getting wet. The annual event has grown in popularity over the years with more than 4500 cyclists taking part in this year’s festival read more IW Cycling Festival 2009… For more information visit www.sunseaandcycling.com

25th – 26th September 2010: Wine Festival  IW Steam Railway – Whether you have a ‘nose’ for fine wines or just enjoy quaffing a favoured tipple, our wine festival will be a treat for your olfactory receptors and taste-buds! Now established as an annual event, our Wine Festival offers a selection of wines from around the World to taste and purchase; plus there’s a selection from closer to home, including the Isle of Wight.

September 2010:  The West Wight Triathlon consists of a 600 metre swim, 35 km cycle and 7.5 km run – anyone interested in entering can do so at www.westwight.co.uk where there are also training tips and results from previous years. September 2010: Food takes centre stage this month at the Arreton Sweetcorn Fair – at Arreton Barns.  Beer, bangers and sweetcorn will be on the menu when the Isle of Wight stages its third annual Sweetcorn Fayre.  Designed as an integral part of British Food Fortnight , the event now in its third year  is sponsored by Wightlink, and celebrates the end of the sweetcorn harvest and brings together local producers and restaurant chefs who are committed to ‘cooking local’.  There will be host of food activities for visitors to get involved in over the weekend as well as the Farmer Jack’s Sausage Competition to decide who can produce the best Isle of Wight sausage.
