6th March 2010: Sandown & Shanklin Lions Club are holding their 29th annual Swimarathon at The Heights Leisure Centre for the charity of your choice. Teams will consist of six swimmers, swimming in relay for 55 minutes OR it is permissible for any swimmer to swim continuously for 10 minutes, but only once during the team’s participation. 11th March - 10th May 2010: Isle of Wight Photographer of the Year Competition Exhibition returns to the Café Wall, displaying a breath-taking 50 shortlisted images from last years entries. 20th March 2010: Cycling Skills and Safety Roadshow on the Isle of Wight. Local cycle businesses and community safety partner agencies are joining forces to give more cyclists the skills to be safer on the Isle of Wight. A series of activities and demonstrations are being organised for a dedicated cycling event on Ryde Esplanade outside the town’s ice arena on Saturday, March 20th, 2010 between 10.00am and 4.00pm.
Isle of Wight Council’s Road Safety team, Isle of Wight Council Community Safety services, Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Katie Ralphs with colleagues from the Ryde Town Safer Neighbourhoods team, and cycling experts from local businesses, The Bike Shed and Wight Cycle Hire, are all working together to provide advice and training on cycling skills, maintenance, security and head injury awareness. 21st March 2010: Sport Relief is back – and it’s coming to the Isle of Wight! in the shape of the ‘Ryde Appley Park Mile’ Ryde is set to host one of Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Miles on Sunday 21st March, and needs local people to show their support by entering now at www.sportrelief.com. 27th March 2010: ‘At the End of a Rainbow’ Annual historical Isle of Wight pottery exhibition with examples of the vast diversity of work produced in the Isle of Wight throughout the 20th century. Pottery displays,photographs, information and slideshow, which includes pieces from private collections, will be available to view. Some contemporary Isle of Wight ceramic makers’ work also on show. 27th March 2010: ‘Turning Point’ Andrew Dowden Ceramic Designs. Solo exhibition of individually-designed, handmade and hand-carved ceramics. New work on show including standing forms, wall plaques and tile panels. Hand-carved and textured surfaces are the main feature of Andrew’s work. He was inspired to take up ceramics during research of the Isle of Wight Pottery book, ‘A Century of Ceramics’. All day parking 50p pence. Refreshments available.
