Isle of Wight Events June 2010:
3rd – 6th June 2010: St Boniface Flower Festival. The Parish of St Boniface, Bonchurch, Ventnor – This Flower Festival is timed to coincide with, and celebrate, St Boniface Day on the 5th June. The theme is a Village Affair and all aspects of village life will be incorporated.
The Victorian Parish Church and the Old Church will be decorated, with tea, coffees, light lunches, etc being served in the Victorian School Rooms. The Parish Church will also be serving refreshments. There will be a concert held each evening and Rev. Caroline Bastion will be preaching at the Patronal Festival Eucharist on the Sunday Morning. 25% of the proceeds raised will go to the Earl Mountbatten Hospice, the remaining funds will go towards the upkeep of the Parish Churches.
4th-6th June 2010: Yarmouth Old Gaffers Festival 2010. The Festival always has a great variety of free entertainment for visitors both afloat and ashore, beginning on Friday. With more than 100 visiting traditional sailing, steam and motor vessels, including the cream of the ‘Old Gaffers’ fleet this is a weekend not to miss. www.yarmoutholdgaffersfestival.co.uk
5th June 2010: Sail the Wight: East Cowes Sailing Club A sailing race around the Island to raise money for the IW Hospice. With a bar and bbq afterwards.
11th – 13th June 2010: Isle of Wight Music Festival 2010 www.isleofwightfestival.com In the music festival calendar, June is now very much associated with the Isle of Wight Festival and 2009 will be no exception. With previous headliners The Police, Kaiser Chiefs, Rolling Stones and Keane, the beautiful setting and connecting with past festival history creates a unique festival experience.
20th June 2010: BRADING 10K ROAD RACE. The course is an undulating single lap taking in Ashey Road, Green Lane and on to Brading then back to Ryde via Whitefield Woods and Beeper Shute. There is a drinks station at approximately 5 Km.
19th June 2010: Round The Island Race 2009 The 2010 JP Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Yacht Race, will be taking place on Saturday 19th June. This is sailing’s answer to the London Marathon as 1600 boats, crewed by some of the biggest names in sailing as well as keen amateur sailors, skim past The Needles, the Island’s distinctive rocky structure, round St Catherine’s Point and Bembridge Ledge and back into the Solent. Various viewing points around the Island. The event will begin for ardent sailing fans starts on 19th June 2010.
Starting on the famous Royal Yacht Squadron line in Cowes, the fleet races westabout, to The Needles, round St Catherine’s Point and Bembridge Ledge buoy back into the Solent. Spectators can find many vantage points, both on the mainland and Isle of Wight, to watch the race progress.
Over 60 prizes are awarded for the event and every boat completing the race receives a memento of the occasion.
Whether you compete regularly or are new to the sport, you will enjoy superb racing in some of the country’s best sailing waters. Whilst the fastest multihull record stands at just over three hours, the bulk of the fleet crosses the line during the late afternoon or early evening and it is often the smaller craft that carry off the top prizes!
20th June 2010: Fathers Day Specials IW Steam Railway – Steam Trains are just made for Dads! Your Dad, whatever his age, will enjoy a day out at the IWSR. Whether it’s reminiscing about travelling on steam trains as a boy, checking out all the engineering stuff, or maybe he’s secretly always dreamt of being a train driver! All dads travelling on the train will receive a free gift and the Railway’s refreshment Rooms will be open all day for meals and refreshments.
20th June 2010: Father’s Day On Wight. Dads will be given free entry at Osborne House & Gardens – Prince Albert’s favourite family home – on Fathers Day, Sunday 21st June, to celebrate his special day in royal historic style! Read more from the Island Pulse HERE:

26th June 2009: Table Top Sale at The Parish Hall of St Thomas, Newport, 10am-2pm.
27th-28th June 2009: National Veteran’s Day. Western Gardens & Eastern Gardens & possibly Appley Park. Reflecting upon the contributions made by all those who have served in the armed forces whilst raising public awareness of veterans issues. Over 150 veterans gather together to take part in a traditional military Drumhead Service & march past as part of the Island’s Veterans Day celebrations since it’s introduction as a national event in 2006.
28th June 2009: Soap Box Derby Challenge. Downside Middle School, Newport. Teams of 3 people with go-karts built by themselves or with help from parents or youth clubs, race against one another. Cash prizes & trophies are awarded to the 10 top teams along with novelty prizes for a number of different categories including “Best Designed”, “Fastest Cart”, & “Best Theme”
28th June 2009: Jaguar Enthusiasts Club IW Region 20th Anniversary at Havenstreet Steam Railway, 10am-4pm.
27th June 2009: Summer Rose Fayre Chale School.

28th June 2009: Car Treasure Hunt and BBQ starting from Ventnor Rugby Club at 11.00am on the 28th June 2009. £3.00 per car. You will require a camera phone or digital camera for some clues. A BBQ will available at the rugby club afterwards. The bar will also be open.
30th June 2009: Mottistone Manor National Garden Scheme Open Day, from 11am. The beautiful gardens surrounding this Elizabethan manor house will be open on this day in support of the National Garden Scheme and all admission money will be donated to its funds.
30th June 2009: Exploring Tennyson, evening of talk and music, Brian Hinton and Paul Armfield, at Farringford 6pm.
30th June – 2nd July, ‘Walking in Tennysons Footsteps’ A three day event to expand your understanding, enjoyment and skills of poetry. Residential workshop to start, with cocktail party and dinner. Brian Hinton MBE will give a short three-tiered talk, to include a general introduction to Tennyson’s poetry, a look at how he structured his poems and the form they took, and how in a practical sense one might attempt to write his type of poem oneself.
