Isle of Wight Events January 2010:

1st – 2nd January 2010: Hangover and New Year Specials at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.

1st January -13th February 2010: Wonderland Contemporary Craft exhbition at Boojum and Snark, Sandown, 10am-4pm, Thursdays to Sundays. Free family workshops Saturday and Sunday, noon-2pm.

1st  – 9th January 2010: WOW Factor: Quay Arts, Learning Curve Gallery exhibition of 20 shortlisted works from the recent young person’s photography competition. 1st –  25th January 2010: No Strings Attached: Miranda Amapola.  An Exhibition of Decorative Guitars on the Café Wall at the Quay Arts.

1st - 10th January 2010: Solent Degree Show ‘The Graduate Show’ will consist of work from a number and range of courses from within the Faculty of Media, Arts & Society, including Fine Art, Photography & Illustration. The work will be chosen via an application process from the student’s Final Major Projects.  Dimbola Lodge Photographic Museum & Galleries. 

2nd January 2010: Postcard and Ephemera Fair at the Parish Centre, Town Lane, Newport, Isle of Wight, from 10 am to 3.30 pm.

14th – 16th January 2010: Jack and The Beanstalk by Wight Island Players at Bembridge Village Hall, starting each night at 7pm, plus matinee on Saturday at 2pm.

15th January 2010: Photography Group Auction. An auction of photographic related items is to take place on Friday, 15th January 2010, at St Helens Community Centre. The auction organised by the East Wight Photography Group at 1.30 pm, is open to photography clubs on the Island as well as members of the public. It’s an opportunity for everyone to have a good sort out and possibly dispose of their unwanted photography related items.  There may be some great bargains to be had too! 10% of the price received for each item will be donated to charity with the balance going to the seller. Just turn up and have some fun!

15th January – 28th February 2010: The Camera and Beyond Exhibition: Dimbola Lodge & Galleries:  An exhibition at Dimbola Lodge by the No Man is an Island  group.  The Camera and Beyond is an exhibition of photographs by a group of young people and the interpretation of their work by artists working in other media.  Read more from the Island Pulse here:

16th January 2010:    St Catherine’s School Mega Fundraiser Read more  here The Pretty Things: who appeared at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1968, 1969 as ‘Rock Royalty’ are down South, on stage at Ventnor’s own Winter Gardens on 16th January 2010. Not that Dick Taylor likes the old media tag these days but the original “bad boys of Rock ‘n Roll” are set to play a mega fundraiser  in aid of St Catherine’s (School) Charity. 21st January 2010: The Wizard of Oz Pantomime staged by Shorwell Drama Club. 23rd January 2010: Pumphouse Gang with the Mechanixs. Gig in aid of the Earl Mountbatten Hospice with: Pumphouse Gang Mechanix Cats Like Plain Crisps. Live Music and DJ’s MC Mike Stanz and Kitty Jes Lytle.

24th January 2010: Wight Brass. A newly-formed Isle of Wight brass band will perform its first concert on Sunday January 24th at St www.islandpulse.co.uk/b2/strike-up-the-band-for-new-wight-brass

24th January 2010: Pickle Wars: The ninth annual Isle of Wight Pickled Onion Wars, will take place next week at The Woodvale Hotel in Gurnard. Why not pop along and try the onion entries to judge your top onion of 2010! 24th January 2010: Isle of Wight cultural and environmental charity Island 2000 is organising the annual Sandman Snowman Spectacular on Sunday 24th January 2010, at Small Hope Beach, Shanklin from 10:30 am. Read more from the Island Pulse  here:

24th January 2010: Classical Concert in aid of Earl Mountbatten Hospice, at Ventnor Winter Gardens, Classical Concert with Violinist Stephen Bingham.  Start 2.30pm.

27th January 2010: Ballroom Dance Afternoon Social to be held on Wednesday 2pm – 4pm at YMCA Winchester House. £4 entry price includes High Tea. No dance experience required. Large on-site car park. For enquiries call the staff at Winchester House on (01983) 862441.

28th January 2010: Quay Arts Laura Boswell: Artist Networking Evening Laura Boswell is an artist and printmaker who recently completed an eight week residency at A.J. Wells & Sons Vitreous Enamellers, Newport, Isle of Wight.

30th January – 6th March 2010: A massive exhibition entitled Melt by Michael Forrest and David Knight.  Working separately, Island artists Michael Forrest and David Knight explore the world of vitreous enamel in a show that will take full advantage of the material’s complexity and durability.
