February 2010: An Isle of Wight charity shop in Ryde is launching its first ever gift amnesty. The Salvation Army Trading Company’s ‘gift amnesty’ will run until the end of February and provide people with the chance to get rid of any unwanted Christmas presents – everything accepted and no questions asked! 1st February 2010: Isle of Wight Budget Options Discussed By Overview & Scrutiny Committee The issue that will help shape the next Isle of Wight Council budget will be discussed by the authority’s overview and scrutiny committee on Monday (Feb 1st). The views of the committee will be relayed to Cabinet that meets on February 9th with the proposed budget presented at the Full Council meeting of February 24th. 3rd February 2010: Big Health Check Up:  People with Learning Disabilities on the Island, and their families and carers, are invited to a ‘Big Health Check Up’ day on Wednesday 3rd February, 09:30 to 15:30 at the Riverside Centre in Newport. Read more from the Island Pulse here:

6th February 2010: Richard Studt and friends. Three famous musicians, violin, cello, paiono play Beethoven, Chopin, Elgar, Vaughan Williams, Cole Porter, Faure, Saint Saens, etc..

6th February 2010: Isle of Wight Haiti Appeal Concert Saturday, 7:00pm – 1:00am Cowes Yacht Haven, Events Centre. Featuring top-class Island acts, headlined by the Chancers and the Kurves the Isle of Wight Haiti Appeal Concert aims to raise much needed funds for the Disaster Emergency Committee following the devastating earthquake in Haiti on 12th January this year. The concert has been organised by Lee Taylor in association with Spencer Rigging Ltd, with help from Red Funnel, Isle of Wight Ferries.  More news from the Island Pulse  here:

6th February 2010: There are several opportunities coming up for Island residents to get their bicycles security marked or for their dogs to be microchipped. Isle of Wight Council’s dog wardens will be offering a reduced rate for dog micro-chipping and Bike ‘wrapping’ will also be available free of charge… more news click Cycle Marking & Dog Chipping In Several Towns & Villages

6th – 7th February 2010: Island Stop Smoking Service Goes Out & About. Advisors will be out and about in Ryde town centre on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th February to give shoppers the advice and support they need to take that step to successfully quitting smoking. More from Island Pulse Here:

7th February 2010: 10 Mile Road Race: One lap scenic road race, taking in Ryde, St.Helens, Nettlestone, Seaview, Springvale, Appley and back to Ryde. Organised by Ryde Harriers.

8th-12th February 2010: Safer Internet Day 2010 a worldwide initiative. Safer Internet Day will be taking place on Tuesday 9th February. 16th February 2010: Isle of Wight Fundraising For Football Challenge  The Isle of Wight Schools Under 15’s football team, made up of 17 boys from all 5 of the Island High Schools are competing in the Donosti Cup in San Sebastien in Spain in July. 17th February 2010: Brighton & Hove String & Wind Orchestra will be performing at St Mary’s Church, High Street, Brading on Wed 17th February 2010 at 7.30pm. There will be a retiring collection. Refreshments.

21st February 2010: Trevor Moss and Hannah-Lou will bring their beautiful folk music to Freshwater Memorial Hall in February. They will be eschewing the conventional live music circuit in favour of an enchanting tour of village halls, bringing along for company a handpicked selection of the best players from their famous London folk club, The Lantern Society. 23rd – 24th February 2010: The third annual IslandExpo Catering and Hospitality Exhibition, takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday 23 and 24 February 2010 at  Cowes Haven Events Centre. Launched in 2008 to huge acclaim and achieving great success in 2009. IslandExpo is now firmly established as the annual meeting place for the Island’s catering and hospitality industry, showcasing products and services from all the major players in this important local sector. 26th February 2010: Go Orange for the Indies Day. The 3 Independent lifeboats on the Island are asking you to join them for one day as they celebrate with all the other Independent Lifeboats in the United Kingdom. Please wear something orange, do something orange or even think orange, raise some funds and donate it to your local independent lifeboat station at either Ryde, Freshwater or Sandown. Ends 28th February 2010 Camera and Beyond exhibition begins at Dimbola Lodge on the Isle of Wight by the No Man is an Island  group. 30th January – 6th March 2010: A massive exhibition entitled Melt by Michael Forrest and David Knight.  Working separately, Island artists Michael Forrest and David Knight explore the world of vitreous enamel in a show that will take full advantage of the material’s complexity and durability.
