Police issue a warning to the equine community over a magazine sponsorship scam.

Members of the equine community across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are being warned to be wary of callers claiming to be collecting sponsorship for a magazine relating to horse thefts.

It follows an incident reported to Hampshire Constabulary on Tuesday, November 17th.   An equine physiotherapist was contacted with a request for sponsorship for a magazine from a man who claimed to be from Hampshire Constabulary.

Money was debited from the woman’s account before it was discovered this was a scam.

Hampshire Constabulary is not involved in this project and advises anyone contacted in this way to report it to police.

Anyone with information relating to this incident, or has received a similar call should contact police on 101, or call Crimestoppers, the charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Callers from outside Hampshire and the Isle of Wight should dial 0845 045 45 45.
