Isle of Wight Council contractors are attempting to clear some of the waste bags that accumulated last Friday because of the snowy conditions.
Street cleansing contractor Urbaser with Island Waste Services will deploy five ‘caged’ vehicles today (Tuesday 22 Jan) to collect as many of these bags as possible.
These vehicles will first visit Newport where a ‘black bag’ collection was missed. If there is time and capacity, we will then move to other areas – East Cowes and Wootton/Binstead – where the weather prevented the collecting of recyclable waste.
The capacity of these vehicles is however limited and we again ask householders to keep hold of their waste until the next scheduled collection.
UPDATE from Isle of Wight Council: We wish to make it clear today’s action by the council’s cleaning contractors is not a rescheduling of Friday’s cancelled collection.
The contractors are using limited-capacity ‘caged’ vehicles and the aim is to clear accumulations of waste bags and pick up as many as possible, not pick up individual bags. They will not be picking up food waste either. Food waste can be left out for collection as normal with your forthcoming collection on 25 January.
These vehicles will be deployed first in Newport where a ‘black bag’ collection was missed. If there is time and capacity, we will then move to other areas – East Cowes and Wootton/Binstead – where the weather also prevented the collecting of recyclable waste.
The capacity of these vehicles is however limited and we again ask householders to keep hold of their waste until the next scheduled collection for black bag waste which is on 1 February.
