Dust Devil Touches Down On the Island.

A whirlwind is caught on film on the Isle of Wight.

Eye witnesses in a car park up on Brading Down, which overlooks Sandown Bay, report seeing the chalk surface being swept up, with the effect, which lasted about 15 seconds resembling a geyser.

The BBC reports: The whirlwind was captured on video by a dog-walker from Ryde, who filmed the event on his mobile phone.

A Met Office spokesman who has since viewed the footage said he thought it was a “dust devil”, another name for a whirlwind.

Dust devils form in sunny conditions during fair weather and differ from tornadoes, which form when they are attached to a wall of cloud during a storm.
