‘Dinner Lady’ Scoops Doctorate

Isle of Wight-based actress Celia Imrie has been presented with an honorary degree of Doctor of Arts at Southampton Solent University.

Other recipients of honorary awards from Solent University this year will include ex-Saints legend and Daily Echo columnist Terry Paine, sailors Alex Thomson and Paul Goodison, author Kathy Lette, and head of P&O cruises Carol Marlow.

The Olivier Award winner, who has been a regular on our telly screens since the 1970s in shows like Victoria Wood as Seen on TV, Dinnerladies and After You’ve Gone, was presented with the honorary degree of doctor of arts. at the start of their week of graduation ceremonies at Southampton Guildhall.

Celia, follows in the footsteps of Craig David, Shane Warne, Fiona Phillips and Charlie Dimmock by picking up an honorary degree from Southampton Solent University.

Celia will be playing the role of Trish in the new comedy Mixed Up North, directed by Max Stafford Clark for Out of Joint Theatre Company.  She will appear at Bolton’s Octagon Theatre on certain dates towards the end of September, After a few shows in Liverpool in November Celia will play at Wilton’s Music Hall in London.
