Fred Caygill reports: Travellers on Wightlink ferries are facing delays today following yesterdays fire aboard the ‘Our Lady Pamela’ ferry.Â
At half past four on Tuesday 15th April, Solent Coastguard received a call from the ‘Our Lady Pamela’ Wightlink passenger ferry reporting that it had an engine fire on board and was currently proceeding to Ryde Pier.
Solent Coastguard tasked Ryde and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Teams and requested the launch of Bembridge Inshore and All Weather Lifeboats. Once the ferry arrived alongside Ryde Pier all 85 passengers and crew on board were discharged with all reported to be safe and well.
The fire has now been extinguished, however Coastguard Rescue Teams are remained on board to assist Isle of Wight Fire Service and the crew of the vessel. Isle of Wight Police and Ambulance services were also in attendance.
