Decision Reached On Location Of Police Headquarters

At a recent meeting Hampshire Police Authority made a decision on the location of the future police headquarters. It will be located at Mottisfont Court in Winchester, a building currently owned by Hampshire County Council. The building will accommodate 150 staff.

Hampshire Police Authority will purchase the building. Following some refurbishment work, the headquarters functions could be moving to the new location within eighteen months from completion of all legal formalities.

The decision follows the Police Authority’s decision from November 2010 that the estate strategy including a new small core headquarters should be cost neutral.

There is still some work to be done to finalise which functions and roles will form part of this smaller headquarters. Other headquarters functions will be located at other sites across the Constabulary area. Alpha Park will be used for the following functions: the force enquiry centre, vehicle workshops, scenes of crime, driver training, print services, uniform stores and a small central archive facility.

The current headquarters at West Hill will be sold as soon as all functions have been relocated.

Councillor Jacqui Rayment, Chair of Hampshire Police Authority, said: “The reduction in the policing budget has meant consideration needs to be given to how policing can adapt.

“We have spent a long time looking for the right solution for the future of the Constabulary.

“This has not been an easy process, but one we needed to have made a decision so the force can move on in planning its wider estates matters.”

Chief Constable Alex Marshall QPM said, “I am grateful to the Police Authority for agreeing to this comprehensive estates strategy.  We can now move ahead with new custody facilities, placing several HQ functions within Alpha Park and establishing a small head office in Winchester.”
