Initial provisional figures show reports of crime at the Isle of Wight Festival went down again this year from 316 in 2011 to 244 to 2012. A full analysis of all the figures is underway and these will be published in due course.
Sergeant Dave Steele of Hampshire Constabulary’s Event Planning Team said:
“A dedicated operation to prevent and detect crime was carried out in conjunction with festival organisers, security staff and partner agencies.
“Many officers, staff and special constables worked longer shifts in the challenging conditions to ensure the event retained its relaxed, family-friendly reputation.
“Additional tactics and technology included extra signage with crime prevention advice, enhanced Bluetooth messages, and my @FestivalCop Twitter accont, which attracted hundreds of followers during the event as we tweeted travel, weather and safety advice.
