The race will allow Shelley to immerse herself in the history of the sport as she roars off the line on (23rd August) in this the most famous of all power boat races.

She joins navigator John Guille and owner Chris Clayton in GEE, a stunning 40 foot power boat built in 1967 by Souter of Cowes.

This will be a big change of scene and pace for Shelley who is currently competing in the Formula 1 of the water world: Powerboat P1. She has got used to driving the powerful Team Lucas Oil, a modern Skater powerboat offering more than 1422hp. and reaching speeds of 120mph.

Her chosen drive is GEE whose pedigree is a good one. It started well in 1968, beating Sir Max Aitken’s Gypsy Girl and in ‘69 was 1st in class. The boat was lovingly restored through the ’80s and ’90s and acquired in 2001 by Clayton. She now sports twin Cummins QSB 480bhp each a little less than Shelley is used to! She still carries her trademark no 185 and a union jack flag on her pristine white livery.

The 2008 Cowes-Torquay-Cowes race is 180 nautical miles and starts with the muster off the Royal Yacht Squadron at 0945 on Saturday 23 August.

Shelley continues her racing in P1 with Team Lucas Oil at the Spanish Grand Prix from 12 -14 September.
