From 30th January, the household waste collection service on the Isle of Wight will change to improve recycling. Today between 1pm – 3pm, council officers and the cabinet member responsible for the environment will be responding live to questions posted on the council’s Facebook page.
Under the plans, weekly food collections will remain but residents will be asked to place more of their waste into the fortnightly collections of recyclables. Wheelie bins or clear plastic sacks for recyclable waste are currently being provided by the council.

Edward Giles, the councillor who will be answering questions on the day said “The council has already sent letters to every household detailing the plans, plus there has been heavy media coverage about the new service. There is also a comprehensive list of FAQs on the council’s website.
“Many people have already contacted the council asking questions, but Facebook gives people another way of interacting with the council. It also means anyone else visiting the page can see the responses live as they happen.
