Concessionary Travel Could Increase Island Bus Fares.
Nov 16th, 2007 | By Island Pulse | Isle of Wight News From The Island PulseIf you live on the Isle of Wight are aged over 60, or disabled you have until December 14th to apply for your free national concessionary bus pass.
However, in the news today, bus passengers on the Island could face massive ticket price rises if the Isle of Wight Council and Southern Vectis cannot resolve a row over how the concessionary fares scheme for the over-60s is funded.
The introduction of free concessionary travel for all those aged 60 and over was announced with a great fanfare from the Government. However, its promise that an extra £350 million of funding that was on offer to councils to cover the cost of the new scheme does not seem to add up for either Southern Vectis or the Isle of Wight Council.
