Cowes lifeboat went well out of its usual operational area to take part in an extensive co-ordinated search for a woman believed to have jumped from the high road bridge over the River Itchen at Southampton.
The long awaited announcement has been made that Southampton General Hospital is to remain a specialist paediatric heart surgery centre following the controversial Safe and Sustainable consultation. The news has been warmly received by Island MP Andrew Turner, who had worked with other MPs on a cross-party campaign to keep the centre open. Last June Mr Turner helped campaigners deliver a petition to Downing Street with over 230,000 signatures, including many from the Island.

A schoolgirl from the Isle of Wight was given the royal treatment after winning a competition to design a Diamond Jubilee card for the Queen.
Due to vibration problems on the forward main engine on the Red Eagle – essential repairs need to be conducted this evening (28th May).
