The entire coast of the Isle of Wight may be opened up to walkers as the government looks into plans to extend the England Coast Path to the island.

This month Hovertravel says goodbye to one of its longest serving pilots; Captain Barrie Jehan. In Barrie’s time at Hovertravel, which started when he left school in 1968, he has completed over 21,000 hours flying hovercraft (which equates to 84,000 crossing of the Solent!)
Children’s Heart Surgery To Stay Local
The long awaited announcement has been made that Southampton General Hospital is to remain a specialist paediatric heart surgery centre following the controversial Safe and Sustainable consultation. The news has been warmly received by Island MP Andrew Turner, who had worked with other MPs on a cross-party campaign to keep the centre open. Last June Mr Turner helped campaigners deliver a petition to Downing Street with over 230,000 signatures, including many from the Island.
Light Airs ‘Unfurled’ Wins Pantaenius Race 1 At Superyacht Cup Cowes
Despite being the last yacht to cross the start line of the Pantaenius sponsored Race 1 of the Superyacht Cup Cowes, the crew of the 34m Royal Huisman built Unfurled found their way through challenging light air conditions to cross the line first on a shortened course.

Her Majesty The Queen will be visiting Cowes on Wednesday, 25 July as part of her Diamond Jubilee tour of the UK. Cowes Harbour Commission will take a central role in coordinating the prestigious visit, liaising and working closely with the Island’s Lord-Lieutenant, the Isle of Wight Council, and Buckingham Palace.
