The Isle of Wight’s part in the Olympic Torch UK relay in advance of the 2012 Games can now be revealed. The announcement of the Island route follows more than a year’s confidential discussions between the Isle of Wight Council and the London Olympic Organising Committee.
The London 2012 Organising Committee today revealed the 1,000 cities, towns and villages on the route of the Olympic Torch Relay. The Flame will pass top iconic landmarks including the Needles on the Isle of Wight.
Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung are the three Presenting Partners helping to ensure that the inspiration of the Olympic Flame reaches as many UK residents as possible. Nominations are being sought for people from the Isle of Wight who have made a difference in their local community to be a torchbearer.
Following the announcement that the Olympic Torch will be visiting Guernsey, Jersey, Southampton and Portsmouth and a number of Scottish Islands, Andrew Turner has confirmed that it will be coming to the Isle of Wight.
