IW Festival News Update 27th March: The future of the Isle of Wight Festival still remains in doubt.  Isle of Wight councillors last night (Wednesday) agreed to adjourn the hearing until April 23rd after the police and festival promoters Solo continue to negotiate over the cost of policing the event.

Isle of Wight Tribute To Anthony Minghella

Tributes are being posted across the globe for Oscar winning British film director and writer  Anthony Minghella CBE who died suddenly yesterday after a short illness. 
As a mark of respect for the Island’s most famous son and greatest ambassador, the Isle of Wight Council has opened a book of condolence at County Hall.



Police Identify Ryde Dead Body.

John Coles reports:   Detectives on the Isle of Wight have identified the man who was found dead in Ryde cemetery on Wednesday, February 27th.  He was Daniel Hillier, who is believed to have lived in the Ryde area.
Mr Hillier’s death is not being treated as suspicious and the file will be passed to the coroner.



Police Name Pedestrian Who Died After Island Bus Collision.

Polls Open In Ventnor West Election.

In Ventnor today (Thursday), the polls opened and voting has begun for what has been described as the “most hotly contested election” ever to be held on the Isle of Wight.
Update: Thursday 11:05pm  The election votes have been cast and counted and the winner in the Election declared as Debby Robinson, the only female out of five candidates.
