Hampshire Constabulary is backing Safer Internet Day on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, by showcasing its own Personal Internet and Cyber Safety (PICS) presentation for schools across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Children’s Heart Surgery To Stay Local
The long awaited announcement has been made that Southampton General Hospital is to remain a specialist paediatric heart surgery centre following the controversial Safe and Sustainable consultation. The news has been warmly received by Island MP Andrew Turner, who had worked with other MPs on a cross-party campaign to keep the centre open. Last June Mr Turner helped campaigners deliver a petition to Downing Street with over 230,000 signatures, including many from the Island.
Police Launch Rape Awareness Week
Today, July 23rd marks the start of Hampshire Constabulary’s Rape Awareness Week. The Rape Awareness Campaign seeks to reinforce important messages about personal safety and how to prevent becoming a victim of sexual assault, focus on potential offenders and making them aware of the issues around consent and the consequences, promote the services of local support agencies and encourage victims to report sexual assaults to the police.
Isle of Wight Farmer Highly Commended in Nature of Farming Award
An Isle of Wight farmer has been praised for his efforts to help wildlife in this year’s RSPB Telegraph Nature of Farming Award. Michael Poland, of Wroxall Cross Farm, Ventnor, received the Highly Commended award in recognition for the exceptional conservation work he has done on his farm.
