Ryde Arts Festival 2008

A fun packed programme of family entertainment is planned for this years Ryde Arts Festival, which commences with the vibrant Arts Parade through the town on Saturday 5th July.

Calling All Festival Fans.

Oxfam are recruiting volunteers for the 2008 festival season.  There are two ways young people can volunteer, either as a Steward or a Campaigner and applications are now open to the general public.

Stewards are the eyes and ears of a festival and roles differ at each event, such as checking tickets, watching for fires, showing people where to camp and various other duties. (more…)

Carolyn Keene reports:  Osborne House (pictured), Queen Victoria’s palace-by-the-sea on the Isle of Wight, is to play host to a summer music festival at which Paul Weller and Girls Aloud will headline the two-day event.

Isle of Wight Festival organisers Solo are launching the event briefly entitled Osbourne House, which takes place 26th and 27th July.  English Heritage is backing the gigs, intended to encourage wider public access and increase income for stately homes. (more…)

Island Storytellers a group of people on the Isle of Wight, committed to the oral retelling of stories and poems, whether they be traditional or modern tales are organising a storytelling festival, ‘Ferry Tales’, between 23rd-26th May 2008.

One of the elements of the festival will be a storytelling competition at which storytellers tell stories inspired by a piece of artwork. Read more »

Carolyn Keene reports:   The Rotary Club of Cowes have reluctantly decided to cancel their St George’s Day Celebrations this year.  Following on the success of last years St. George’s Day celebration the Rotary hoped to stage an equally successful event for 2008; to achieve this, they needed to raise about £15,000.  (more…)

Island Youth Music Festival 2008

Stephanie Welch reports:   The Island Youth Music Festival 2008 is taking place at Medina Theatre (Isle of Wight) on Sunday 2nd March.

This year’s concert involves Vectis Youth Brass Band, Wight Diamonds Marching Band, Music Centre Brass Band and Music Centre Wind Band.  Also featured is a group performing musical theatre, young singers and dancers from various dance schools have got together to produce an eclectic programme as their contribution to what promises to be a varied and enjoyable afternoon’s entertainment. Brighstone Christmas Tree Festival

Merry Christmas TreeBrighstone Christmas Tree Festival takes place from Thursday 6th to Sunday 9th December on the Isle of Wight. Decorated trees from individuals and groups around the Island will be on show in Brighstone Parish Church, Brighstone Methodist Church, Wilberforce Hall and Mottistone Church.

The Isle of Wight Zoo this year are displaying a very special tree, themed ‘Dreaming of a Green Christmas’, in Wilberforce Hall Brighstone village centre, refreshments are available.

Camp Bestival 2008 A New Sister For Bestival.
