National Veterans Day is marked on the Isle of Wight, on Friday, with an outdoor service (weather permitting) at Northwood House in Cowes.

Caren Allen reports:  International Soprano and member of the National Opera in Berlin, Minjou, is to make her solo  debut in a special song recital on Saturday 28th June 2008 at St Saviour on the Cliff, in Shanklin.

Minjou will sing Puccini to Gershwin in aid of Earl Mountbatten Hospice, St. Saviour on the Cliff, Shanklin & St. Catherines Church, Ventnor. (more…)

Isle of Wight MP Andrew Turner To Launch Family Fun Day In Support of New Branch: Image Copyright Island Pulse.

Campaigners on the Isle of Wight are offering much-needed support for local people affected by autism by opening a new branch of The National Autistic Society (NAS). 

To celebrate the launch there will be a family fun-day on Saturday 21st June at Haylands Primary School in Ryde.   Isle of Wight MP Andrew Turner (pictured) will be supporting the new branch (more…)

Team Isle of Wight

Simon Butler reports:  A team of youngsters from the Isle of Wight are back on home soil after a successful time at the Youth World Island Games.

The annual competition was held last week on the French island of Guadeloupe, with the Island’s finest young sporting stars coming home with three medals. (more…)

King returns to the Isle of Wight Photo Journal Image Island Pulse.

Lucy Johnson reports:  King Charles Ist returned to his Isle of Wight prison last week to help English Heritage Chairman Lord Bruce-Lockhart open up new interactive facilities at Carisbrooke Castle.

A new exhibition, a virtual tour and interactive activities to try out are part of the imaginative new £900,000 facilities, aimed at encouraging visitors to have more fun with history. 

A spacious new building houses an admission point and shop, freeing the former Guardhouse, which now contains a virtual tour of the castle and an introductory film, narrated by comedian Phill Jupitus, who grew up on the Island. (more…)

Gavin Foster reports:  A record number of walkers took part in the 2008 Isle of Wight Walking Festival and now organisers are turning their attention to a brand new weekend long event, on 24th-27th October.

Organisers from the Isle of Wight Council estimate that well over 20,000 people attended the 275 walks organised for what was the 10th Isle of Wight Walking Festival. (more…)
