Carnival ‘Grannies’ Donate Zimmer Frames

The Zimmer Frames bought for the 2009 carnival season were originally used by the Wight Strollers as part of their ‘Young at Heart’ Island Carnival float.
Winning 16 cups, the 25 strong troop of ‘grannies’ are now donating 11 Zimmer frames to St. Mary’s Hospital and 9 to the Red Cross.

The Wight Strollers have a diverse range of members of all ages from across the Island including a few hospital workers.
In the last 30 years, they have raised and donated over £85,000 to Local Charities including many hospital based charities and causes.
The Wight Strollers are now in their 30th year and their 30th Anniversary Pantomime Dick Whittington is being held at Medina Theatre, Newport, on the 13th, 14th and 20th February (Half Term) at Medina Theatre.
Proceeds from the upcoming performance will be split equally between St. Mary’s Hospital Radio, St George’s School and Medina House School.
Nicola Steedman, a member of the Wight Strollers and Physiotherapy Assistant at St. Mary’s Hospital said:
“Our aim is to have fun while entertaining the public and raising money for local charities, we had great fun doing the carnivals around the Island, and are now pleased they can be put to good use where they are much needed”.
