Car Share On Wight

Mar 5th, 2009 | By Anna Symcox | Isle of Wight News From The Island Pulse

In an effort to make the Isle of  Wight a little greener, the Council in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and IW College have introduced an Island-wide car sharing scheme and launched a brand new website www.carsharewight.com

In an effort to reduce carbon emissions and congestion, the new car sharing scheme will enable Island residents to share their regular trips. With uncertainty over the cost of fuel, the scheme will not only bring environmental benefits to the Island but could also bring significant financial savings to those taking part.

A brand new website www.carsharewight.com has been launched by the council and its partners, where residents can register their interest and the website will match them with others doing the same journey.

Island businesses are encouraged to get involved in the scheme and promote it within their workplace.

Tim Hunter-Henderson, Cabinet member for environment and transport said:

“The introduction of our new car share scheme will be of environmental benefit to the Island and enable residents to share the costs of regular journeys. A number of local authorities across the UK have introduced similar schemes with great success and I am confident that ours will be well used by Islanders who wish to save money and reduce their carbon emissions at the same time.”
