Cancer Research UK Race For Life On Wight
Jul 25th, 2009 | By Carolyn Keene | Isle of Wight News From The Island PulseRace for Life 2009 will be taking place on Sunday on the Isle of Wight. It is one of the most prestigious charity events of the year, let’s make this year’s event the biggest and best yet.
Cancer Research UK are delighted to be hosting a Race for Life event on Sunday 26th July 2009 at 11:00 in Medina Playing Fields and Seaclose Park.
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is the UK’s largest women-only fundraising event series. Women of all ages and fitness levels are invited to come together to walk, jog or run 5k to raise money to beat cancer.
Hannah White, Isle of Wight Event Manager for Race for Life, said:
“We are absolutely thrilled that so many women have already accepted our invitation to Race for Life in Newport. Together, they will help us create a fantastic atmosphere on the day and raise crucial funds to help beat cancer.”
Cancer Research UK hopes the 1,200 women taking part will hit a fundraising target of £58,000.
Hannah White continued:
“Race for Life is an amazing experience, with local women of all ages, abilities, shapes and sizes coming together to make a positive difference to the lives of people touched by cancer. They motivate and inspire each other to complete the 5k. Many simply walk round, chatting and having fun but they all share the wonderful spirit of sisterhood and pride on the day.
Please don’t forget to bring your Donation Station bag to the event. By filling up your Donation Station bag with quality items you no longer need, which then get sold in local Cancer Research UK shops, you could add as much as £30 to your sponsorship amount. Across all Race for Life events in the UK last year, your unwanted clothes, DVDs, CDs, books etc raised a further £1.5 million to fund our life-saving research. This year the target is even higher as shops try to keep up with customer demand so please bring any bag (or bags) with you on the day, and drop it off at the donation station marquee!”
Last year Island Police Got In The Pink For Charity sadly Newport Sergeant Penny Deacon whose idea it was to participate and raise funds passed away earlier this year.
