Those clever people behind Bestival are to launch a new festival next summer of which we on the Isle of Wight had prior knowledge of from the Ambassador Rob Da Bank himself.
Camp Bestival is a new sister for Bestival and will be held at Lulworth Castle from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th July 2008. Set against the backdrop of England’s dramatic Jurassic coastline in Dorset its aimed at being a camping experience as much as a music festival.
With only an intimate 10,000 tickets on-sale, it’ll hark back to the first ever Bestival, where magic moments were shared between special people, creating memories that will last forever.
In the words of Rob da Bank:
I can’t wait to get to Camp Bestival! It’s gonna be a proper big old family campsite with what we reckon will be the best facilities of any festival, from custom-furnished tipis and yurts to campfires, maintained barbeques, a massive kids area and our Bestival Bluecoats on hand 24 hours a day to cater for your every need And then theres the music not so much an afterthought as just one part of the whole shebang. Roll on July!
So loyal festival folk - come join the Camp Bestival bonanza as we bring back the British holiday camp with bells on and be part of history in the making.”
Fear not Ambassador Rob Da Bank is not about to ditch the Bestival on the Isle of Wight as Rob says:
Our spiritual home is the Isle Of Wight though and I hope no-one gets worried that we’re moving or taking our focus off Bestival we’re not!
Tickets for ‘Camp Bestival’ go on sale at 9am on Monday 5th November, EARLY BIRD TICKET priced at £110 for adult weekend camping. Once the allocation of £110 tickets runs out, tickets revert to the full price of £120.
The organisers say: “Inspired by those halcyon days of summers past, imagine the 1950s British Holiday Camp with a twist and you’ll get close to what Camp Bestival is all about. Mix in entertainment of the highest order (including splendid music), the biggest boutique campsite ever, excellent facilities for the outdoor life and a generous sprinkle of Bestival magic and you’re in our world.
You’d be ‘Nuts in May’ to miss this debut show from the buccaneers that bring you the annual, multi award-winning (‘Best Medium Sized UK Festival’ etc) - Bestival. This new show has the stamp of Bestival excellence but is also unique – a cool camping festival, innovative and playful - where the capers of Hi-De-Hi holidays meet the spirit of early Glastonbury, where musicians and storytellers roam the woodland glades, spreading love and merry cheer.
Taking place in the grounds of a magnificent castle by the sea for three midsummer days and nights, expect to bask in nostalgia and fits of giggles as the Bestival Bluecoats (with the mighty Miguel from The Cuban Brothers at the helm) round-up the troops and lead them on a merry jaunt around the most beautiful site in the world (as designed by Josie da Bank).
Fun for all the family is top of the Camp Bestival agenda so expect a super Kids Area filled with magic moments and an abundance of neat treats for lil’uns of all ages. From a Sports Day on the jousting strip to storytelling around roaring campfires, a good ole Cockney Knees Up, Insect Circus, The All Singing Kids Summer Party and dressing up antics, it’ll be a jam-packed haven for kids and their parents . Plus Lulworth Castle has its very own Animal Farm where the kids can get up close to their super-friendly animals.
As ever there’ll be a super live music line up programmed by the big daddy himself, BBC Radio 1 DJ/Bestival head-honcho Rob da Bank (soon to be revealed!). In true Bestival style, the music will be diverse and will tickle all tastebuds with a Main Stage, the new Tree Stage, a Balearic Bollywood arena, the Rock’n’Roll Tent and the magnificent Spiegeltent for proper Come Dancing dance-offs. All this plus Comedy, Spoken Word (with very special guests), Theatre in the Woods, films projected on the Castle walls, fireworks and fun on tap!
At Camp Bestival you can stay in luxury with a wide choice of affordable tents, tipis, yurts, bivouacs, airstreams, and gypsy caravans, or bring your own world of outdoor living to this delectable Dorset retreat. The facilities are top-notch for families with parking right next to the campsites, spacious areas for chilling and playing and the relatively flat landscape means access around the site is easy for mums and wee-uns.
Hot showers (with tea and toast while you wait) will warm your cockles and giant BBQs, spit-roasts, farmers’ market and the finest local and famous food stuffs will ensure hearty meals are indulged in - and of course the local WI will be there to attend to all your cake and tea needs. So whether you’re dancing your socks off or chilling in the Restival area you’ll be having the time of your life.
