Bus Staff Gain Community Qualification
Jul 15th, 2009 | By Anna Price | Isle of Wight News From The Island PulseStaff at Isle of Wight Council’s Wightbus are now even better equipped to meet the needs of their passengers after gaining a qualification promoting professional service to passengers with special requirements, such as the elderly, those with learning disabilities and wheelchair users.
In all, 39 members of staff successfully completed the NVQ Level 2 in Road Passenger Driving (Community Transport).
The course also covered modules in efficient driving as well as effectively dealing with emergencies and incidents.
Cllr Edward Giles, Isle of Wight Council cabinet member for environment and transport said:
“This is a great achievement for Wightbus staff. Not only will passengers benefit from our drivers’ extended skills and knowledge but this national qualification broadens the scope of career development and demonstrates the council’s commitment to ongoing personal development.”
