Breathe Easy Isle of Wight Coastal Path Challenge

Aug 27th, 2008 | By Kath Harvey | In: Charity, Events and Festivals, Isle of Wight, News

Island MP, Andrew Turner is to launch Breathe Easy the Isle of Wight’s ‘Coastal Path Challenge’ and it will be a challenge for some of a 72-mile sponsored walk around the Island.

The walk, will start on 5th September just after 10am at Appley Beach café in Ryde.

Its being organised by Sarah Kearney, Respiratory Nurse Specialist, and Andy Savage, who is Treasurer of the local Breathe Easy group and whose father Cyril sadly passed away a few years ago because of a serious respiratory disease.

Sarah said:

“One person in seven in the UK is affected by a lung disease, such as asthma, emphysema or chronic bronchitis, at some time in their lives. Although I like to walk for the exercise, I have never attempted a long-distance hike so I am looking forward to this, but with some trepidation!

I am hoping that as well as raising money for Breathe Easy and the British Lung Foundation, I will have lots of fun whilst also getting fit!.”

Breathe Easy Isle of Wight is part of the British Lung Foundation support network, which offers support to people and carers living with various forms of lung disease. They hold monthly meetings and offer a range of social events, talks, and very importantly a chance to meet and speak to others with similar problems.

Please join Sarah, Andy and Andrew Turner MP at 10am on 5th September at Appley Beach café to wish them well on their journey. There will also be a finish-party from 2pm-4pm at Appley Beach Café on 14th September to welcome them on their return.

For more information on how to take part in the walk, or to offer sponsorship, or for details on Breathe Easy Isle of Wight, please contact Andy on 01983 810932.
