Following on from last years World’s Biggest Bicycle event, organiser Sue Birch is once again putting a call out for teams to ride a ‘Big Bike’ on the Isle of Wight in aid of the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.
With 230 sponsored riders including former World Cycling Champion Tony Doyle, last years ride was so successful in raising £14,000, that Sue was asked to repeat the performance.
On 26th-27th July volunteer teams are expected to take to the streets on the Isle of Wight and ride the Big Bike in aid of the Hospice.
Organiser Sue Birch said:
It has been decided that we will use a smaller bike this year a 16 seater, 15 pedal stations, so therefore making it easier to raise teams.
It is still a heavy bike weighing the same as last year at 2.5 tonnes when fully laden, so the challenge will be just as great.
There are to be four routes this year, Ryde on Saturday morning, Sandown in the afternoon 26th July. Sunday is Cowes in the morning and Yarmouth in the afternoon 27th July.
Extra entertainment this year includes: Greenmount Samba band playing at 11am by Planet Ice, Ryde and the Fat Samba band playing in Pier Square, Yarmouth on the afternoon.
As the Big Bike is smaller this year, Sue is appealing for more teams to take part and this as a fundraising event,is definitely one not to miss!
The dates are Sat & Sunday 26th and 27th July. Anyone interested in taking part can contact Sue on 407723, or the hospice fundraising team on 528989.
