Bestival will be rocking the Bandstand Stage at this weekend’s inaugural Isle of Wight Big Green Picnic.
The Bandstand Stage will play host to a cornucopia of local musical talent, with local folk band The Wellbeing, environmental theatre by Quantum Theatre, Jazz and storytelling all represented at some point over the weekend.
We can now reveal that Rob da Bank is also planning to send in a crack team of top bands from his own mighty Sunday Best record label as well as some very well known local friends of Bestival to play live and DJ at various points in proceedings.
Headlining the Big Green Picnic Bandstand Stage on Saturday evening will be Sunday Best recording artists Lucky Elephant www.myspace.com/luckyelephantmusic whilst Sunday will be headlined by another great band on Rob’s roster that many people will have seen tear up Bestival for the past 4 years, Brighton’s The Hat www.myspace.com/wearethehat  Both acts will take to the stage at 5pm on their respective days.
Rob da Bank this week extended his personal support to the event, remarking of the Big Green Picnic;
“All the folk at Bestival HQ love the Island and jumped at the chance of a knees-up - especially one with such a great and worthwhile cause. Bring it on!â€
Rob has also asked local boys (and longtime friends of Bestival) The Bees to DJ proceedings across the weekend – the band will present their critically-acclaimed ‘The Sound Selection’ on both days, in-between each live act (band members Aaron, Paul and Tim will all be present and correct on the decks).
The Big Green Picnic is a fun-packed event for families and individuals of all ages and is being organised by the Isle of Wight Council to promote the Council’s vision of the Isle of Wight becoming carbon-neutral, fully sustainable and eco-friendly.
Over the course of the weekend, a variety of workshops will showcase the many ways in which Islanders can look to reduce their carbon footprint.
