Autumn Events In Ventnor

Take a trip to Ventnor on the Isle of Wight this month for a variety of Famous, Folk, Funky, World Celebrity  music throughout September and October.  Watch out too for some music workshops that the new Creative Activities Centre on Church Street are starting up…

Andy Fairweather-Low at Ventnor Winter Gardens: Chloe Hall Trio at St Catherine’s Church: Afro Beat and Hi Life music at the Spyglass, with Mick Smith from Quay Arts taking Platform One students through their afro funk paces in the intervals.  Not forgetting WORLD CELEBRITY at the Winter Gardens with Cleo Laine & John Dankworth.

These are just a few events for which tickets are currently selling in The Music Shop on Pier Street, guaranteed to keep spirits up as Autumn draws in.

17th Sept: FAMOUS: Andy Fairweather-Low at Ventnor Winter Gardens, which promises to be a fabulous Thursday night with guitarist to the stars and his current line up. £17 in advance, £30 on the door.
 
20th Sept: FOLK: Chloe Hall Trio at St Catherine’s Church. A last minute coup secured this Australian folk act on tour, for Ventnor. Described as “an exciting new group on the alternative fringe of the Australian folk scene … who generate smiles as soon as they play with their winning combo of heart, humour and great musicianship”. £8 tickets selling now.
 
17th Oct: FUNKY Afro Beat and Hi Life music. Two and a half hours of sound straight from the shores in Bulawayo. Afro Beat at the Spyglass Boathouse features the return of Thabani Nyoni with his T-Bone Afrika album line up. Thabani has asked Paul, Kris and Tim to guest with him if they are on the Island, plus Mick Smith from Quay Arts will be taking some talented Platform One students through their afro funk paces in the intervals. Be happy – T Bone Afrika is the real deal – live the Hi Life on the shores of the sea here in our own town. Tickets £10 selling now.
 
30th & 31st Oct: WORLD CELEBRITY: Don’t forget tickets for the biggest celebrity event at the Winter Gardens this year. Most probably the last time to see Cleo Laine & John Dankworth perform in Ventnor. This is one concert not to miss out on – even if you are not so sure about mainstream jazz and Ealing comedy style humour! After all, this celebrity couple fill Carnegie Hall. Saturday tickets are already selling fast, so get in now before it is too late. £38 each and available to buy from the BAR at the Winter Gardens or from The Music Shop in Pier Street. Also, the once popular monthly gigs at the Spyglass Boathouse are being revived but not just for jazz. The next one after Afro Beat on the 17th Oct will be on November 21st. Watch out too for some music workshops that the new Creative Activities Centre on Church Street are starting up – details in The Music Shop or at the centre itself.
