The RORC Madeira to Cowes Race was supposed to provide an exhilarating downwind blast home, however with a choice of starting days, the weather played a crucial part with the result, Puma Logic won the Founders Cup for first overall and the Ortac Cup for winning Class 1.

It was no surprise with the appalling weather at the weekend, that the RORC fleet, which assembled on the Royal Yacht Squadron Line on Friday evening for the Cowes-Cherbourg, was far less than the 52 original entries.

With an impressive season of inshore racing, Niklas Zennstrom’s TP52 RAN (pictured), was the first yacht to finish the Cowes to Dieppe Race. A five hour margin of victory was aided by the tide turning unfavourably for the rest of the fleet after RAN had finished….

The RORC’s Season’s Points Championship will continue this weekend with the RORC Channel Race on Saturday, 26th July.
