Ventnor Youth and Community Centre has been given a vibrant makeover thanks to a two stage local community partnership project.
Isle of Wight Council officers Linda Gorman and Nick Cook are leading the project and are working with partners, the Friends of Ventnor Youth and Community Centre and the Local Network Fund.
The first stage of the building’s revamp was completed earlier this month and a bright and colourful mural has been unveiled.
Artist Nick Holt, along with over a dozen youngsters, came up with the design for a mural and work was carried out over the last few months. The teenagers have also been involved in the design for the second phase of the project.
The second phase, which will see other parts of the exterior painted and revamped, as part of a project to spruce up the building is already underway.
Isle of Wight Council Cabinet member for Children and Young People Alan Wells said
“It’s great to see effective partnership working between the council and outside organisations, especially when young people are involved. The mural certainly does brighten up the area and I look forward to seeing the completion of the rest of the project.
