Appeal for Witnesses to Serious Collision in Newport.

Officers from the Shanklin Roads Policing Unit are appealing for witnesses to a serious single vehicle collision on the A3054 at Newport on Monday, March 12th 2007.  The crash occurred at about 3.27pm on ‘The Racecourse’, an arterial road between Newport, East Cowes and Ryde. 

A green Ford KA was heading out of Newport towards East Cowes when the driver apparently lost control and the vehicle overturned on its side.

The driver, an 80-year-old man from East Cowes, was trapped underneath the car and sustained serious arm injuries.

He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment where his condition is described as ‘stable’. There were no other passengers in the car.
