Appeal For Witnesses After Island Crash.
Jun 28th, 2008 | By John Coles | In: Appeal, Community, Isle of Wight, NewsOfficers of the Isle of Wight Roads Policing Unit are seeking witnesses, after a Newport motorcyclist received serious injuries in a collision with a Ford Focus.
At about 7.20am Thursday, June 26th, a yellow and black Suzuki motorcycle was travelling from Newport to Ryde on Kite Hill. When the 36-year-old motorcyclist reached the junction of Fishbourne Lane, the bike was in a head-on collision with a blue Ford Focus. The car was travelling from Ryde and turned right at the intersection with Fishbourne Lane.
As a result of the impact, the motorcyclist left the bike and was thrown into the air. He travelled about 25 yards before crashing through the wooden fence of a garden alongside Fishbourne Lane.
The motorcyclist is being treated for serious injuries at St Mary’s Hospital, where his condition is listed as critical, but stable.
The Focus driver, a 50-year-old man from Ryde, was treated for a minor head injury and released from St Mary’s Hospital. He was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and bailed, pending further inquiries, until September 8th.
Police need to hear from anyone who saw the collision or either vehicle before they collided.
